The app I found is called "molecule" and it is a really cool app for chemistry and science. It is a free app found here:
itunes.apple.com/us/app/molecules/id284943090?mt=8
From what I could see there were a lot of pros. You can look up any molecule and it would bring up a list to choose from. From that you can move around the composition of whatever you choose to get a visual of what it looks like. It would be really applicable to use in a chemistry classroom. It also shows the number of atoms when you click to extend the description of whatever molecule you chose. I would definitely have my students in a chemistry class use this app so they can have a more in-depth look rather than a picture or a slide to look at. The cons? I couldn't really see any because it is a free version so I do not expect a lot from free apps.
I thought this app was very cool. I wish this was around when I was taking chemistry and having to make out different molecules. It is a great visual for students to actually see what the molecule looks like and what it is made of. I would probably use this in the higher middle school grades because it is part of chemistry and pretty advanced. A con of this app is that students don't understand why those atoms fit together to form a certain molecule. Overall, I think this is a great way to study for a test. Student can look at the different molecules and study what they look like and which atoms make up the molecule.
ReplyDeleteI tried out this app as well. I found it helpful when Rachel and I talked about surface tension for our devotion in science. It helped me gain a greater understanding of the structure of the water molecule. The water molecule wants to pull together and has a "downward" net force pulling on it. I had no idea what this looked like, so being able to see the molecule itself was extremely helpful.
ReplyDeleteThis app isn't overly in-depth, but as Jessica previously indicated, it serves as a good study tool
